What is Cricket

History of cricket

Cricket is played with a bat and ball comprising of two sides with 11 players each. The field is elliptical with a rectangular area in the middle, known as the pitch, which is 22 yards by 10 feet wide. In the ground  two sets of three sticks, called wickets, at each end of the pitch.

Cricket is believed to have begun in the 13th century as a game in which country boys bowled at a tree stump or at the hurdle gate into a sheep pen.
 It consisted of a crossbar and  two uprights. The bail is called  crossbar and the entire gate a wicket.
In the early history manuscripts it differ’s about the size of the wicket, which is a third stump in the 1770s, but by 1706 the pitch was 22 yards long.

In 1774 England,established  the 'laws of cricket', and 1760  the world's first cricket club was formed.

Since 18th century cricket has been played in United states and the first formal clubs were formed later in the early 19th century. However, interest in the United States did not last and the game is now only played by independent clubs.

In the 17th century the ball remained same as a stone . Its modern weight is in between 5.5 and 5.75 ounces (156 and 163 grams) that was established in 1774.

There is no doubt that a bat is made of a shaped like  branch of a tree.
If the bowlers change the length of bowling then batsman straight the bat to defend it. The bat was shortened in the handle and straightened and broadened in the blade, which led to driving,cutting and forward play.
