In September and October 2019 South Africa cricket team play three Tests and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches in India. The Test series will come under the ICC World Test Championship 2019–21. After this series South Africa return to India in March 2020 to play three One Day International(ODI) matches.
In August 2019,South Africa Cricket team confirmed that in Test matches Faf du Plessis would lead the team, while in T20I Quinton de Kock named as the captain of the team. Later the same month, as per the request of the Jharkhand Cricket Association requested that there are celebrations of Durga Puja on the second week of October in Ranchi,due to the puja Committee of Administrators (CoA) agreed to switch the venues of the second and third Tests. Pune, which was originally scheduled to host the third Test, will now host the second Test, while Ranchi will now host the third Test match.

As per the information South Africa announced their Squad for Test as well as for T20I. India announced their squad only for T20I,in which team lead by Virat Kohli .For test matches Faf Du Plessis lead the team.In T20I Quinton de Cock Captain of the team. Ahead of the tour, Rudi Second was ruled out of South Africa's Test squad due to injury. He was replaced by Heinrich Klaasen.
